Oreo Poke Cake: The Ultimate Treat for Cookie and Chocolate Lovers! 🍫🍪🍰

This recipe is relatively easy to follow and uses a cake mix as its base, making the preparation especially straightforward.

Ingredients (for a 9×13 inch / approximately 23×33 cm baking dish)

For the Cake:

  • 1 package (about 15.25 oz or 430g) chocolate cake mix, plus ingredients as directed on the box (usually eggs, oil, water)
  • 10-12 Oreo cookies, coarsely chopped (optional, for mixing into the batter)

For the Pudding Filling:

  • 1 package (about 3.9 oz or 100-115g) instant chocolate pudding mix (or Oreo pudding mix, if available)
  • 2 cups (about 480 ml) cold whole milk

For the Topping:

  • 1 tub (about 8 oz or 220g) thawed whipped topping (like Cool Whip) OR 1 cup (240ml) heavy cream, whipped to stiff peaks
  • 8-10 Oreo cookies, coarsely crushed (for decoration)
  • Chocolate syrup for drizzling (optional)

Instructions

  1. Bake the Cake:
    • Preheat your oven according to the cake mix package directions.
    • Grease and lightly flour a 9×13 inch (approx. 23×33 cm) baking dish.
    • Prepare the cake mix according to the package instructions. If you like, you can now stir in the 10-12 coarsely chopped Oreo cookies into the batter.
    • Pour the batter into the prepared dish and bake as directed on the cake mix package until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
    • Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool for about 10-15 minutes. It should still be warm when you poke the holes.
  2. Poke Holes:
    • Using the round handle of a wooden spoon, a wooden dowel, or a thick straw, poke evenly spaced holes all over the warm cake. Make sure the holes are deep enough (almost to the bottom) but not too close together (about 1-1.5 inches apart).
  3. Prepare Pudding Filling:
    • While the cake cools, whisk the instant pudding mix with the cold milk in a medium bowl until it just begins to thicken (about 1-2 minutes). Don’t let it set completely.

  4. Soak the Cake:
    • Immediately pour the pudding over the still-warm cake. Make sure the pudding sinks well into the holes. Use a spatula or spoon to spread the pudding evenly over the surface and gently push it into the holes.
    • Refrigerate the cake for at least 1 hour (or preferably longer, ideally 2-3 hours or overnight) to allow the pudding to fully set and absorb into the cake.
  5. Top and Decorate:
    • Once the cake is well chilled and the pudding is firm, spread the thawed whipped topping evenly over the top of the cake.
    • Generously sprinkle the cake with the coarsely crushed Oreo cookies.
    • If you like, drizzle some chocolate syrup over the top.
  6. Serve:
    • Cut the Oreo Poke Cake into squares or rectangles and serve it chilled.

This Oreo Poke Cake is a simple yet impressive dessert that will delight with every bite, thanks to its moistness and crunchy Oreo topping. Enjoy!
